About / The Artist

One-of-a-kind wearable art, stitched together from stories, history, and reclaimed fabrics.

Founded by Halifax-based artist and designer Evan Carr, The Travelling Gallery is more than a clothing label — it’s a moving studio, a pop-up boutique, and a living art project. Every hoodie, pair of pants, and custom garment is handmade from thrifted blankets, vintage fabrics, and reclaimed textiles, each chosen for its colour, pattern, and story.

Meet Evan

Evan’s journey began at the intersection of creativity and sustainability. Studying at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design (NSCAD), he developed a love for upcycling — not just as a way to reduce waste, but as a way to give discarded materials a second life as functional art.

On weekends, you’ll find Evan behind a sewing machine at Halifax’s waterfront market, crafting pieces while customers watch. At festivals, he’s part tailor, part storyteller, talking about the history behind the fabrics while stitching them into something completely new. His work has been featured on CBC, CTV, and in local galleries, and worn by customers across Canada.

Why Upcycled?

Because fabric carries history.
Because style should be personal.
Because no one needs another mass-produced hoodie.

Evan sources materials that have lived other lives — a wool blanket from the ’70s, a cotton quilt from an estate sale, a thrift-store gem with just the right wear. The result is something new that still feels timeless — a garment with character, soul, and zero chance of being duplicated.

A Moving Gallery

The Travelling Gallery is exactly what it sounds like: a gallery that moves with Evan. From the Halifax boardwalk to music festivals and pop-up shops, every event is both a storefront and a live workshop. Customers don’t just buy the finished product — they see it being made, and often become part of the story.
